The Devil and Casari series started as something kind of different, but essentially along the same lines. I had an idea to have a teenager learn to fight demons and was thinking about how to create a demoniac hierarchy when I started learning about the real thing. After a bit of reading, I realized that making stuff up wasn’t nearly as interesting as just going with what I (as a Catholic) believe to be real already…hence the series.
