What is it you want to know about me? Okay, so you know I’m a writer, or at least I pretend to be one. Let’s go with that – as best I know, as best I can say, I’m a writer. Yeah, that’s boring…moving on.
I’ve been writing (poorly) since I can remember, with my first book being in second grade titled, “How to Look at Stars.” My first sentence that I remember was, “First, get a telescope and take it outside.” Astounding. Flash forward several decades and I’m still writing…poorly. Now, though, I have a wonderful wife and three adorable children – Kaitlyn, Genevieve, and Nathaniel. They rock, all four of them. If you see a van in Raleigh, NC sporting two AT-AT stickers and three AT-ST stickers, chances are it’s me. I also have two dogs, both of which are pretty but dumb…or pretty dumb, I’m not sure. I’ll have to check the episode of FRIENDS for that one to see if I have it right.
When it comes to reading and spending time elsewhere, I prefer Fantasy and Science Fiction, though I will occasionally dabble in a little bit of Fiction or Horror. I prefer my Fantasy hard core and my Science Fiction out there. In terms of Non-Fiction, I’m a History buff with the occasional science, psychology, or parent book tossed in for good measure. If you see a geek in the library asking for more books on the Roman Empire, chances are that it isn’t me, but you never know – that’s my go to spot.
I love playing volleyball and fencing, though my knees are too poor for me to do either much of those anymore.
My reading influences are too numerous to list, though in short, one could consider Robert Jordan, Steven Brust, Terry Brooks, Raymond Feist, Anne McCaffery, Robert Heinlein, Patrick Rothfuss, Peter Hamilton, Shakespeare, and Issac Asimov as highly influential to my writing, though not necessarily in that order. Honorable mentions go to David Gerrold, George R. R. Martin, Orson Scott Card, and Brandon Sanderson (who is moving up in the ranks). You don’t have to know who each of these people are to get my work, but if you see a name you don’t recognize, maybe you should go check him or her out? I mean, no one on that list sucks, right?
In more personal terms, I’m a conservative Roman Catholic who tries and fails frequently, but keeps on trying anyway.
